Former GOPer: "If you think Paul Ryan and his Ayn Rand-worshipping colleagues aren't after your Social Security and Medicare, I am here to disabuse you of your naiveté."
It should have been evident to clear-eyed observers that the Republican Party is becoming less and less like a traditional political party in a representative democracy and becoming more like an apocalyptic cult, or one of the intensely ideological authoritarian parties of 20th century Europe. This trend has several implications, none of them pleasant.

Republicans, Democrats, independents are all normal regular decent people. Generally most folks around the world are decent good folks. They aren't part of a cult.
ReplyDeleteSharply slashing medicare and social security is a point of view. One I happen to agree with. I also want to end all restrictions on imports and foreign investment into America, allow far more immigration. Sharply increase taxes, including on rich people [but poor people too.] Lay off a large percentage of government workers. Sharply reduce and simplify government regulations.
In other words be a pro poor person free market pro business pro corporate populist, much like Erdogan in Turkey or Lula in Brazil, Hu in China, or PM Singh in India.
To support these kinds of pro poor people policies is not be be a cultist, but to be a supporter of justice.
Vomit on your scalp.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you know, a lunatic defending lunacy.
ReplyDeleteDoes this guy (anan) live in the US? Yeah, tax the poor more, and take away social security, that will surely increase spending and stimulate the economy.
ReplyDeletebuh..anan is the loony in residence on this blog. No one takes him seriously.
ReplyDeleteThe depressing thing is, Obama has already taken steps to weaken social security. It was he who put it on the table to be cut, when the Republicans hadn't even asked for it. Not that they aren't wanting to cut it as well. Or more likely, privatize it. But Obama hasn't defended it. He's showing us every day in numerous ways that he's a reactionary, or at least too much of a punk to stand up for the last commonly owned programs, such as social security. Two tax cuts so far this year have decreased the amount that goes into the fund. I think it was supposed to be a "tax holiday" e.g., one that ends, but when it's time for tax cuts to expire people start howling about taxes going up, so it's not likely to expire any time soon. Too damn bad!!
ReplyDeleteBTW Anan, why don't you start your own blog?
I'm so glad I don't live in the US. I would have had to move one more time again.
ReplyDeleteWhy doesn't Anan start his own blog? Why? Aren't you enjoying his comedy routines over here? Sometimes he's really funny. Unintentionally, of course.
