Anger is a legitimate emotion in the face of injustice. Passive acceptance of evil is not a virtue.

BBC interview with Darcus How, a West Indian veteran and Writer.
Darcus Howe: "I don't call it rioting, I call it an insurrection...of the masses of the people. It is happening in Syria, it is happening in Clapham, it's happening in Liverpool, it's happening in Port-au-Spain, Trinidad, and that is the nature of the historical moment."
I think Darcus is wrong in equating the current shenanigans with earlier protests against police violence which culminated in riots. Things have moved far from the original protest and can no longer be linked to it. There is still some anti-police activity going on, e.g., the fire-bombing of a police station in Nottingham; madness but motivated by resentment and desire for revenge rather than for material gain. Old Darcus has suffered greatly at the hands of the mainstream media, which is probably the reason for his refusal to play their games. He knows that the BBC et al. are not interested in getting to the root of the problem. They are after a sensational soundbite from a cranky old veteran of previous battles with the racist police. Some comment from a journalist who isn't part of the problem - http://www.counterpunch.com/austin08092011.html
Thank you for posting this clip. I actually heard it on an American political podcast (The Majority Report) and I was thoroughly disgusted by the line of questioning that this reporter used. I don't even know why we're discussing whether or not the rioting people are "just thugs" and stealing for the sake of stealing. If it weren't for the instituttionalized racism that takes place, the inner cities wouldn't become a tinderbox for such anger and violence. Why is this so hard for people to understand? I'm really tired of all the moralizing that I hear on the media with not one mention of David Cameron's austerity programs and his big FUCK YOU to working class people. How many of those rioters do you think are unemployed? Sorry for the rant. I found your blog when I googled that clip. :)
England is broke. It is not sufficiently pro business or pro high tech. As a result England lacks tax revenue and needs to slash spending.
If you think Cameron shouldn't cut spending, then you are free to offer Cameran a 500 billion pound loan at low interest rates. Guarantee Cameran would take your loan and not cut spending.
"England is broke." For once the bahinchot speaks the truth, apart from the fact that you can't divorce the economy of England from that of the UK (still one nation for the time being). However he could have gone on to state that the UK is not quite as the broke as the USA, and that it's our politicians' acquiescence and surrender to the USA, and its larcenous instruments, the IMF and the World Bank, that got us into this mess. For Jasus' sake, what have the Yanks done with all the loot they've grabbed since 1955, apart from propping up a mad-dog client state, and devastating much of Asia with their weapons of mass destuction?
Very impressive. You have acknowledged the truth about British decline.
The IMF and World Bank have little to do with Britain. Britain doesn't substantially borrow from them. Britain doesn't much contribute to them either. Increasingly the great Asian superpowers and Brazil fund and run the IMF and World Bank.
Britain has few voting shares or influence over the World Bank and IMF any more. Maybe this is the real reason for the subtle dig against these institutions above?
"<span> the UK is not quite as the broke as the USA</span>"
OK the UK is better than Greece or Pakistan or Sudan. I am pro British :)
The loot was grabbed by Britain and to some degree other colonial powers pre WWII. What other country has grabbed loot in recent decades?
Pro-British, mon cul! Signing off your racist remarks with the mantra "I love Britain" proves what? That you believe there are bigger fools than you reading your lies. Let me disabuse you; you are the fool supreme, Lal Bhujjigar. Your refusal to recognise the parlous state of the US economy confirms your fool credentials. Unfortunately your delusion is shared with millions of others.

The BBC said: ''We'd like to apologise for any offence that this interview has caused.''
