For those who are unfamiliar with Abu Rahme..Watch the man in action..Stunning video..
Here he faces the IDF thugs unarmed, only powerful words, a flag and an unflinching will to defend his village from the ravages of the wall. For that he was sent to rot in jail for 17 months.
Jails are full of Palestinian Gandhis..If Israel and its supporters want the Palestinians to have a Gandhi then surely it's an admission that Israel is doing the oppression..
I don't know history well enough -- did India free itself from British completely through non-violence? The U.S. civil rights movement adopted non-violence as a strategy (as opposed to a philosophy)... and they did accomplish a lot through the sit-ins, etc. that were non-violent, but also the rebellions in the streets made it clear that people would not accept oppression passively.
On a sort of remotely related note -- isn't tomorrow the 2 year anniversary of the day when that courageous Iraqi threw his shoes at George Bush? International throw-a-shoe day!!
Where, oh where is the Palestinian Gandhi? Cry the creepy liberals.
ReplyDeleteAn Israeli jail, maybe.
