The Conservative Political Action Conference's presidential straw poll, a key marker of the mood among conservative voters, apparently didn't mean anything to the network. And if it did mean something, the only real result is bragging rights for the individual candidates who were so well exposed. And hey, even Dick Cheney
showed up.
What's interesting from the POV of this blog, is that Paul is vehemently opposed to our Middle East policy, who voted no to both the Iraq and Afghanistan invasions. He voted against U.S. support for Israel's invasionof Lebanon, against the resolution praising Israel's massacre in Gaza, and has said that Israel no longer needs U.S. support. and is not a good ally.
ReplyDeletePaul's political views are pretty much hardcore libertarian, which is why he opposes all foreign interventions and wants our overseas bases closed (he also wants agencies like the CIA severely curtailed). I don't buy the libertarian arguments on issues like the economy, social policy, and the environment (also, he's anti-choice), but his views on foreign policy are really "radical" for any U.S. politician to espouse, especially w/r/t to Israel.
I like Paul's pro free trade views. He would end sanctions on poor countries; hopefully against Gaza and Israel too.
