Zionist colonial feminism( The Angry Arab)
"There is no question that the only reason this former feminist (only her first book, the Beauty Myth can be considered a feminist work) is praising the Jordanian monarchy is the King's relations with Israel. Do you think that people like her would be praising the Jordanian autocratic rule of the Hashemite if it promoted resistance to Israeli occupation. And you wonder why Arab feminists are most disgusted by Western colonial feminism? Look at this: "I was so sure that Muslim women should be allowed to speak for themselves because of the faces of Muslim feminism I encountered in recent travels – notably in Jordan, a country fascinatingly poised between tradition and innovation, developing under a forward-looking monarchy that is seeking to modernize and, to an extent, democratize. For those Westerners who worry about Islamic fundamentalism in the Arab world, surely Jordan is a worthy model to understand, support, and engage." (thanks Marcy)"

"to an extent, democratize"
ReplyDeletehaha. like half pregnant
Or half dead.
ReplyDeleteNicely put Yasmin and TGIA. I am glad that someone other than me is "disgusted by Western colonial feminism." I am too scared to admit it openly, lest some woman accuse me of being a male chauvanist. The thing is I "LIKE" Asian femnists, it is some of the extreme leftist femnists in America that make me uneasy.
ReplyDeleteTM: If my reading is correct, the biggest concentrations of the slave trade are in Southeast Asia and portions of Latin America?
ReplyDeleteBS: If you were to plot slaves on the map, you'd stick the biggest number of pins in India, followed by Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan. There are arguably more slaves In India than the rest of the world combined.
And yet, if you look at international efforts or American pressure, India is largely let off the hook because Indian federal officials claim, "We have no slaves. These are just poor people. And these exploitive labor practices," -- if you're lucky enough to get that term out of them -- "are a byproduct of poverty."
Let me be clear, the end of slavery cannot wait for the end of poverty. Slavery in India is primarily generational debt bondage, people whose grandparents took a debt.
TGIA, I know a few people who are half dead myself...
ReplyDeleteMe two. Quite a few morons around.
ReplyDeleteEvidence? Any Indian citizen can file a petition in court if their civil rights are violated.
