Isn't it ironic to hear some say that Socialism or the socialist system doesn't work especially when we know that trillions and trillions of dollars have been spent in efforts to undermine and bring down EVERY single socialist govt. the world over? " You see! We told yah!! It doesn't work!"
(Oh, I can only anticipate the pure pleasure of hearing the highly predicable comments coming from you know who..I can't wait..Yawn!)
This is just untrue. What money was spent to bring down the Chinese, Soviet and Indian socialist systems? How about the Irish pseudo socialist system until by mid 1980s?
ReplyDeleteSocialism causes shared sacrifice as everyone gets poorer . . . together. When has socialism ever succeeded at long term economic growth and increasing living standards?
The Irish pseudo-socialist system? How pseudo can a system get? It wasn't socialism, nobody ever called it socialism, and no socialist ever got within an Irish mile of the Irish economic system. Whatever you're taking, fool, either give it up or take enough to kill you off.
ReplyDeleteSocialism is saved up for the elites and corporations they represent in America. There is virutally nothing which amounts to anything given to the people.
ReplyDelete"Equally science-fictional is the belief that capitalism will finally get round to feeding the world. If the political left had promulgated such a transparent absurdity for as long as its opponents have pedalled this lie, it would have been howled down without mercy." (Terry Eagleton, 'The Gatekeeper')
ReplyDeleteCapitalism's job is not to feed the world. How absurd,
ReplyDeleteThe purpose of capitalism is to make each individual understand that are rewarded, or punished, soley based on their actions in as fair a manner as possible.
I dont have responsiblity for my neighbor, they dont have responsibility for me. If we choose to help one another, that is our free choice. But neither has RESPONSIBILITY to do so.
It cant get any fairer than that. I mean, its not completely fair. The tall will have a better chance of being well paid pro basketball players. The smart will have a better chance of becoming well paid scientists.
Ultimately it comes down to natural selection. Ironically, many of the so-called atheists here dont adhere to its tenets when it applies in today's world. The culling of the weak from the herd is as old as the history of the planet, and is the only reason we are more than pond scum today

ReplyDeleteThen why do it's apologists make out that it is the only economic system that could do so, and constantly intimate that it is about to do so? Oh, I know, it's because they are liars, well paid liars. You are a true disciple of Milton Friedmann, flem - the weak go to the wall; tough!

Nope, its not about lying dear Jemmy. BTW, no true adherent of capitalism feels the need to "apologize" for it.
ReplyDeleteCapitalism is the best hope for the world because it allows people the most opportunity for achieving their utmost potential. Any other system falls well short.
Thus, capitalism allows human beings to maximize their productive capacity. Thus there is more to go around with capitalism, but as with any system it doenst mean that everyobdy has all they need.
The only system to "dangle the feed the world carrot" is some form of communism/socialism. Tell me Jemmy, enjoyed the fruits of any communist or socialist inventions/advancements lately?
I don't know what a socialist invention or advancement would be, flem. I imagine it would be one in which a number of people collaborated on an equal basis for the benefit of all.
ReplyDeleteA capitalist invention or advancement would be the same, except that it would be stolen and copyrighted by some greedy selfish ratbag for the financial benefit of said ratbag. 'Intellectual property', what a con. "Omnia sunt communia" (shades of MaracatĂș).
Jemmy, you are living in dreamland, buddy.
ReplyDeleteFirst: A computer? A car? The airplane? Google? GPS? ALL these things (and many more) were invented/created in democratic societies and then translated into popular use by profit seeking enterprises within the capitalist system.
Tell me ANY situation in which human beings collaborate for the equal benefit of all. Ever had an interest in a girl? Others might have too? Did you bow out in deference to them? Do you play sports? Do you think every game should end in a tie?
Sorry Jemmy, the human being has been successful because like all animals it works for its self interest. Sure, you can have groups or "tribes" that work together. But to pretend that they wont compete with other groups, or that there arent competitions within the group is silly.

The three post thing is very annoying but its not my fault.
ReplyDeleteJemmy, do you know anybody, anybody who is naturally lazy? I do. Do you think they have the same right, to the same things, as others? That no matter how hard you work you are entilted to your "fair share"? Do you think that might discourage hard work and risk taking - just a bit?
One way to encourage hard work and risk taking is to reward it. You know as well as me that NOBODY got rich by hard work alone. Hard work is always the magic wand that the rich and privileged offer the poor and exploited. Some of the poor, having seen through the con, become what you call lazy.
ReplyDeleteNobody ever got rich by their own efforts alone. We are all part of a network. The easiest way to get rich is to rip someone else off. If a person is shrewd enough they can do it within a legal system devised to ensure that the majority remain in a position of subservience. That's capitalism; if you can live within that system without kicking against it and wanting to change it, congratulations. Personally I'd rather search for something better.
Best of luck in your search. Finding a system where "knowing somebody" is not an advantage, well, there would have to be a world full of complete strangers.
ReplyDeleteFace the reality man. Your system doesnt and will never exist. Im sure you are familiar with Churchill's quote....
There are lazy rich and lazy poor. The poor have more motivation.
Ripping other people off, ala Bernie Madoff, only pays off temporarily. If that is your attitude, wow, you are an embittered soul.
The poor give up too easy then. Life is hard. There are no handouts.
Tell President Obama how a half black/white dude from a single parent family cant make it. For all that I disagree with him on, I respect his determination. Sure, he had family to support him along the way. But he did not come from a privileged background, to say the least, and there he is.
Some people will have it harder than others Jemmy. Fact of life. The pretty and the charismatic will always have it easier than the ugly and the awkward.

Born in Eritrea, the 34-year-old became a U.S. citizen in 1998. He was second in New York in 2004 and third in 2005. Wearing "USA" on his chest, Keflezighi won in 2 hours, 9 minutes, 15 seconds.
ReplyDelete"The USA gave me all the opportunities there is in education, sports and lifestyle," he said. "To be able to represent the USA is a big thing for me."
Welcome to the USA all Eritreans. Welcome all who seek education, sports and lifestyle. Give me your poor, your uneducated, your athletes yearning for a lifestyle. Eradicate world poverty, everybody move to the USA.
ReplyDeleteAny policy that doesnt alleviate world poverty (Jemmy) or all human suffering (Joe) is a failed policy. Sure.
ReplyDelete"Adding insult to injury, Saint Paul District Manager Claire Gallagher took advantage of Aizze’s limited English abilities and bullied and manipulated her into signing a promissory note saying she would pay Starbucks the arbitrarily- determined amount of $1200. Acting through the notoriously anti-worker law firm Olonoff, Asen & Serebro,. LLP, Starbucks has since sent Aizze a letter threatening to send their baseless claim to a collections agency."
ReplyDeleteGive me your poor, I'll make them poorer.
Gee Jemmy, in case you hadnt heard, we have trouble with too many people trying to enter, live and work in the US. And it because there is a Starbucks on every other corner.
ReplyDeleteIts because no matter how little dough they can make here, its still a hell of a lot more than they can make in their own shitty little country.
Im sure you will find a way to blame the US for every failed state around the globe. Can hardly wait,
