"There are various forms of having democracy and plurality in the Land of Canaan. My book on Sharing the Land of Canaan basically summarizes the mythologies used to prevent this logical solution and articulates a vision shared by millions around the world. Indeed it is the only viable and durable solution to the conundrums of the Middle
East.
Why not go back further and call it the United States of the Big Bang?
ReplyDeleteIt is a process of devolution, the United States of Entropy
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing that the choice of the name Canaan is a compromise between the two names "Palestine" and "Israel"..None is satisfactory to the other...
ReplyDeleteI actually had an idea like that: to call a new federated state, or group of states, "The United States of the Mideast". Calling the country Canaan is a little too obscure, in my opinion-and besides, reviving the region's biblical past hasn't turned out to be such a good idea. But there will be a time to be creative and design and name a new state eventually, but first Israel has to do right by the Palestinians.
ReplyDeleteWasn't Uri Avneri involved in the foundation of a (failed)Canaanite party many years ago?
ReplyDeleteI'm not aware of that one..Last thing I've heard about Avneri is that he opposes BDS..I'll try to find the link..

It had no political influence, but some influence on the arts.
Avneri was an early enthusiast, but soon went over to "pan-semitism".
