At around 5 A.M. on Wednesday, Chinese authorities visited the home of Xu Zhiyong, a prominent legal scholar and elected legislator in Beijing, and led him away. He has not been heard from again. Unless something changes, he is likely to stay away for a long time, with or without formal charges. Anyone with an interest in China, its economy, its place in the world, or the kind of future it will fashion, please take note: This is a big deal.

The US people utterly and completely reject the notion that we are responsible for the situation of the Palestinians. The Palestinians have chosen their leaders, followed their directives and supported their policies. No amount of "guilt mongering" is going to change our perspective. We will never "deliver" an Israel-free Palestine to the arab world. So sorry.

The population was decimated, national pride had been eviscerated and their lands were under occupation by foreign forces. Their future was incredibly bleak. Since then they have built two of the world's leading economies - almost literally from scratch.

The U.S. is responsible because it helps arm Israel and because its help fund Israel's illegal occupation with American tax dollars. As a "free" unoccupied American I do not support the occupation of the Palestinian people, so why can't I request that my tax dollars do not go to funding Israel?
