ReplyDeleteThere was a time when you could make a political statement by your fashion-whether it was long hair, a shaved head, sandals, Doc Martens, etc. Now it seems all meaning of any kind has been stripped from fashion. Someone would have to dye their hair purple, get body piercings, and dress in old clothes for you to know they are an anarchist-and then you couldn't be sure. About the only fashion you can wear now that makes a political statement is the keffiyeh.

ReplyDeleteParis in Summer can be really HOT and the idea of wearing black is utter insanity..But black is everywhere now in Paris I could understand!...While he could grab the opportunity to highlight this point, he seems to be encouraging the ridiculous and counter nature trend!

Well, preaching in the desert..Like what I posted above. The idea that there's symbiosis between one's attire and the season seems to be lost on the majority...If even the Parisians, who tradionally have one of the most refined sense of matching the attire to the occasion, have adopted black all year round nowadays then the cause is lost! I heard that the New Yorkers are doing the same! In Sydney it's becoming ridiculous too. At any given time of a Summer day, when temperatures easily reach the 40 degrees in the shade, Sydneysiders have been swept too! Only old ladies and gents still hold on their light-colored light weight fabrics when everyone else chose an accoutrement more suitable for a funeral...But I'm only scratching the surface here the problem is far deeper than that.. It would take days to detail the list of bizarreries and oddities so common and widespread that it might make one feeling alienated and ...lonesome..an odd one out!

I'm less tolerant with this fellow; No socks(!) It's the trend. It's obviously very hot and he's sweating but sees no causation effect between black and heat attraction/absorbtion.
Actually the Vibrams are meant for running! That should be excellent! A certain Indian/Mexican tribe( I forgot the name, maybe tarahumara)) is famous for it's prouesses at running the ultra marathons barefoof or wearing some types of sandals too. I remember discussing this matter on As'ad's blog...

ReplyDeleteBTW, this is only available in bespoke from Dimitri Bottier, Paris. One of my favorites. He designed many modeles for Crocket and Jones, a slightly cheaper ones than his very exclusive own brand!
I agree completely we should dress well and look good. Look at the picture of Cynthia McKinney on this site -- although she is wearing a t-shirt, she is well groomed and the picture of good health -- a pleasant, attractive person. Of course when I am representing just myself, but especially if I were representing the pro-justice, pro-human rights viewpoint (i.e. pro-Palestine), I should not give anyone the opportunity to call me a scruffy old hippie!
