The Palestinians had tried to remove a tent that was set up in the area of Al-Buweirah, east of the West Bank city of Hebron.
ReplyDeleteAccording to Ma'an's correspondent, a group of Youth Against Settlements activists had removed a tent that was set up by settlers east of Hebron when a group of the illegal West Bank residents attacked the Palestinians, as well as a unit of Israeli soldiers in the area that attempted to stop the settlers.
Hebron – A car driven by an Israeli settler hit a three-year old girl as she crossed Ar-Ras street in Hebron near the illegal Kiryat Arba settlement.
ReplyDeleteThe screams of the injured child, identified as Jalila Mus’ab Salah Al-Ja’bary, brought Palestinian and Israeli police to the scene, who then detained the settler woman as she attempted to flee the scene.
The young child was taken to Hebron hospital for treatment; her injuries were described as moderate.
A group of Israeli settlers announced Monday that it would defy its government's orders not to enter Palestinian Authority-controlled areas of Hebron.
ReplyDeleteThe group arrived around 1pm on Monday, Hebron residents said, accompanied by Israeli Knesset Member Yaakov Katz, who was spotted in Hebron's Old City on Shuhada Street, where he gave a brief statement.
"We came here to say that Hebron is a Jewish city," Ma'an's correspondent in Hebron quoted Katz as saying. "We believe that Hebron should be open [to Jews].
Bethlehem - Ma'an - Around a dozen farmers from the village of Beit Ummar with lands in Safa close to the illegal Israeli settlement of Bet Ayin were denied access to their fields on Saturday after Israeli forces declared the area a closed military zone.
ReplyDeleteThe farmers were accompanied by eight international solidarity activists and five Israeli human rights activists.
After less than ten minutes of being in the fields, farmers were ordered off their lands by Israeli soldiers and border police in four jeeps. Israeli forces showed the villagers a closed military zone order and demanded they leave the area.
As the farmers were leaving, dozens of Israeli settler children screamed, “death to all Arabs” in unison from the top of the hill where Bet Ayin settlement is located.
Over the past month, Israeli forces have continuously declared the agricultural lands close to the settlement closed military zones. On three occasions in the last two weeks, farmers accompanied by international solidarity activists have been ordered off the lands they legally own by soldiers who threatened arrest.
On 26 April, two elderly Palestinian farmers from Beit Ummar were beaten by thirty masked settlers on the farmers’ fields close to the settlement. Abdullah Soleiby, aged 80, sustained two hair-line fractures and received ten stitches to the top of his head after three settlers held him down and repeatedly smashed his head with stones.
Hebron – Israeli soldiers detained five Israeli citizens working as peace activists protesting the establishment of an on illegal settlement east of Hebron in the West Bank.
ReplyDeleteThe Israeli activists, along with a dozen international activists and Palestinians were demonstrating near the land of Issa Jaber in the Al-Buwaira area of Hebron.
Protesters built small booth, mirroring a hut constructed on the land last month by Israeli settlers on Palestinian-owned land. According to the group Youth Against Settlements, the settlers are trying to impose a “de facto” situation on the land and create an illegal settler outpost on the area and effectively annex the land.
Bethlehem – A road leading from the Israeli settlement Kiryat Arba to the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron in the southern West Bank will be open to Israeli-only traffic next week, the Israeli Central Command said on Tuesday.
ReplyDeletePalestinians living along the road are prohibited from using it, Israel Radio quoted the spokesperson of the Central Command as saying; he added that only five of the Palestinian families living there have cars.
Settlement leaders were informed of the decision to open the road a few weeks ago and they warned Central Command chief General Gadi Shamni against opening the road to Palestinians. During a meeting with Shamni, they claimed this would lead to bloodshed.
Bethlehem - At least 200 Palestinians demonstrated near Damascus Gate on Thursday, protesting Israel's "Jerusalem Day" holiday, which marks the country's occupation of the eastern half of the Palestinian capital.
ReplyDeleteIsraeli news sources reported that activists held signs reading "Jerusalem - not a celebration for everyone" and "Building in the west - demolishing in the east." Other demonstrators waved Palestinian flags and called Jerusalem's so-called reunification a fantasy.
"The city is not united. East Jerusalem had been annexed by Israel against the will of its residents, who have since been suffering discrimination, neglect and abuse in all walks of life," said a statement to Ma'an from the demonstration's organizers, a coalition of East Jerusalem neighborhood committees and residents.
Israeli forces captured East Jerusalem from Jordanian control in 1967, annexing it and declaring the city the "undivided, eternal capital of Israel."
Thursday's protest was also coordinated by the Association for Civil Rights in Israel (ACRI), Shomrei Mishpat – Rabbis for Human Rights, and The Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions, the statement said.
